First Class Airline Travel
For Coach Prices

Flying comfortably doesn't have to mean spending a fortune. The advice in this article will show you how you can pay for Economy, but travel in luxury and truly enjoy a cheap holiday.

Choose your seats before you leave for the airport. Either choose your seats when you buy your ticket or by using electronic check in. You may not be able to upgrade yourself through the airline's website, but it's a good starting point for your seating plan.

Make sure you're earning frequent flyer points. Sign up with an airline and fly with them whenever possible, or use a credit card that gives you points for every dollar you spend. No matter how you earn these points, they can be used to upgrade you from coach to first class. Joining an airlines reward club can also give you access to lounges and other amenities, giving you a more comfortable experience on the ground even if you haven't earned a better seat in the air.

One of the easiest ways to get a better seat is to be polite! Air travel can be stressful, but there are no advantages to taking out your anger on airline employees. Be polite and understanding under any circumstances, and you'll often be rewarded for your considerate behavior. If your flight's been delayed or cancelled, a positive attitude can often earn you first class treatment on your next flight - especially if many of your fellow passengers have already lost their tempers.

Even under the best of circumstances, allow plenty of time and be friendly if you'd like to try for an upgrade. Arguing is never a good strategy in today's airports, so if you can't get upgraded at check-in or at the gate, don't push it. Airline employees are used to argumentative, pushy travelers. When asking for an upgrade, you should be prepared to take no for an answer since this is a situation where arguing isn't going to help your case. It's quite possible that the airline employee is telling the truth when they say there aren't any first class seats available!

If all else fails, try for bulkhead or exit row seating. These seats provide the most legroom, and some passengers may try to avoid them, leaving them available for you to snag. Keep in mind that passengers under the age of 15 are not allowed in exit row seats, so try another strategy when traveling with children.

Increase your chances of getting a better seat by taking the flights no one else wants. A red eye flight is less likely to be sold out, making it much more likely there will be a seat in first class for you to ask for. People who can afford first class flights are probably willing to pay for an earlier flight. Keep in mind that some flights, such as transatlantic flights from the east coast to Europe, are almost always going to be overnight flights so this strategy may not be helpful.

Avoid the back of the plane. Passengers seated in the back of the plane are usually the last to get on and always the last to get off. Some of the most unpleasant parts of air travel are waiting. Minimize your wait by staying out of the back.

Learning the tips and tricks of airline travel will help you have a better experience. Remember this article the next time you fly and you'll be much more likely to travel in style!
